London Campus FAQs

Do I have to write TOEFL?

No! Once you have received a conditional university acceptance through CultureWorks, you will be expected to complete our High-Advanced Level. You will not be required to write TOEFL or any other English proficiency exam.

What is the relationship between King's, Brescia, and The University of Western Ontario?

The University of Western Ontario is one university with four campuses. Three of these four campuses are King's, Brescia and Main. Students registered at any of the four campuses are University of Western Ontario students, receive a University of Western Ontario student card, and graduate with a University of Western Ontario degree.

Toronto is located approximately 1 ½ hours away from London by car.

Can I work while I study at CultureWorks?

Unfortunately, students who are in Canada to study ESL are not permitted to work. Once you have been a student at King's, Brescia or Main campus for six months, you will be eligible to apply for a work permit.

Do I have to start from the first level?

No! At the time of application, you will complete an assessment test via email. The test will help to determine your starting level in the ESL program. We have four levels. Each level takes 12 weeks to complete. Unfortunately we cannot estimate your starting level based on your TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Can I take part-time or evening courses?

Due to the intensive nature of the CultureWorks program, students only have the option of taking full-time courses.

Do you have a beginner course?

We are trialing a High-Beginner level at our London campus for the April 2010 term.

When can I start university?

Students who graduate from CultureWorks in October or January are permitted to enter King's, Brescia or Main campus for undergraduate studies in May. Students who graduate from CultureWorks in April or July will be asked to wait to enter undergraduate studies in September.

Graduate students have the opportunity to enter the university in September, January, or May. Some departments have fewer start dates.

Does CultureWorks have scholarships?

Yes. CultureWorks awards scholarships each term to the student who obtains the highest grade average from his or her level of study.

At the undergraduate level, CultureWorks also contributes to international student bursaries and scholarships. We donate 10% of net profits to student awards.
